A Vibrant History
Christ College is the oldest tertiary institution in Australia and is a residential college of the University of Tasmania. Familiarly referred to as 'Christ,' the college is home to a residential community of approximately 285 undergraduate and postgraduate residents, many of whom are international students from Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
We are not just a regular dorm where students live, we're an active and vibrant community with an exciting roster of sports, charity and social events hosted throughout the academic year.
A Stunning Location
The college is located on the University's grounds in Sandy Bay, Hobart. Situated among beautiful bushland at the top of College Road, Christ College is only a 5-10 minute walk from any point on campus, and only a 5-minute drive from the Sandy Bay shopping area where there are banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants. A free shuttle bus service also operates regularly, taking residents to specialist university institutes such as IMAS and Menzies, as well as into the city and to Sandy Bay.Since moving to Sandy Bay in 1962, Christ College has been made-up of six main residential blocks, each named after influential figures in the establishment and history of the college. Many of these buildings were designed by Dirk Bolt, and are regarded as one of Tasmania's finest examples of post-World War II Australian architecture.
